I can try to see if the veteran players will play with one newb/novice in a tourney. if enough newbie/novice players want a private tourney i could do that too but need at least 4 teams of 2 if its a 2v2 or at least 4 players if its a 1v1. minimum to start.

and its 4 teams no matter what if its a 3 way FFA or 3v3 or 4v4 need 4 teams. just way the casses ladder site works but a tourney with any less would end in like 2 or 2 games and be boring. more there is in it the more fun it is.

dont matter every section you see is public area of our forum and welcome to any one who is willing to respect it.

private areas are set up to be restricted and probly hidden from peopel who are not part of SF :)

so post as much as ya like ;)

Oh yeah I completely forgot about that tourney Zero.

Well thats two tourneys were I have lost out in the final. :/

The other was with Reaper on Reefa against Wedge and Afterlife and it was my fault that we lost as Reaper was holding Afterlife. But that match was a year ago and I can say I've become a better player since then.

There is a recording of that match in the download section on the HG website.

its easy to make 1 for veteran players but!! think about!! we newbies need support in this game too.

otherwise it sucks for us ))

problem is theres no way to mass group the newbies ;)

they need to be draged in here so they can learn thats theres more behind homeworld then just playing other newbies on big laggy sync maps :) ( altho them games are sometimes fun )

but they need to be brought here so they can study the strat area and learn about the tournaments i need enough of them wanting a tourney to take the time out of my day to host it and they all have to be able to put in at least 2-3 hours for the day and time of the tourney. each round takes around 30 mins to an hour and it normaly goes for 3 rounds some times 4 if allow join.

Another tough point is qualifying noobies. At what point does "noob" become "somewhat skilled"?

I belive that for a noob to become somone with skill is after:

1. he gets some sort of a (good) reputation around a few others.
2. he can win a few games against more skilled players.
3. he has been playing for nearly a year.
4. he can build considerable sized fleets in a short amount of time (eg 10-13 mins)

Unfortunatly I only pass only 2 or 3 of those but I am getting there... eventualy... (sigh)

skill basicly means knowlege level of the game controll base strategies that work well for the map your playing on, and tactics that work well with the strategy you chose.

Example:

Talas Crossroad.

knowing to make say 4 collectors and 1 controller wont help you at all if u dont know what strategy they go with or where to send the controler.

but he who knows to send 2 collectors and the controller to the side at first then 2 collectors to middle with mothership will have a good shot at a win.

then knowing that 2 research with this strat is wise and to reserach capital ship drive first of all to get controller and supports then research intercepters then only capital ships from there.

then its a matter of setting up your fighters into micro formations and drawing the battle out while u build up enough caps.

thats only one of many ways to win on that map but even if u know only that method and do it well ( strategy is called inter caps ) wich works well on many maps too. then you are considered in a average skill level.

Skilled would mean you can win often with any strategy on any map you dont have to win often just more then you lose or as much as u lose say 50% wins 50% losses.

hehe oops off topic

One other way to qualify newer, less skilled people (I'm being politially correct here) is to say that anyone that is in the lower half of the ladder, or unranked. Now I will be the first to point out that there are probems with this, because Lags and myself would both qualify. But as time goes on, this would take care of itself with some wins.
